The calculator follows the Working Time Act and the Youth Employment Protection Act. Collective agreements, works agreements and statutory industry rules may differ. It does not replace legal advice. Law as of 25 September 2026, checked against the Working Time Act, last amended by Art. 52, and the Youth Employment Protection Act, last amended by Art. 53, each of the Act of 23 October 2024 (BGBl. 2024 I No. 323).
Breaks, maximum hours and rest are governed by the Working Time Act and the Youth Employment Protection Act. The calculator applies them.
The calculator works out all times internally in minutes, so rounding cannot shift anything. For every rule there is a test case that runs automatically with each change.

For more than six up to nine hours of work, a break of at least 30 minutes is mandatory, for more than nine hours 45 minutes. The break can be split into sections of at least 15 minutes. Nobody may work longer than six hours in a row without a break (§ 4 ArbZG).
Eight hours per working day (§ 3 ArbZG). Up to ten hours are allowed if the average over six calendar months or 24 weeks does not exceed eight hours per working day. Collective agreements can deviate from this.
After the end of daily working time, at least eleven hours of uninterrupted rest are mandatory (§ 5 ArbZG). In hospitals, restaurants, transport and some other sectors it may be one hour shorter if another rest period in the same month or within four weeks is extended to at least twelve hours.
No. Working time is the time from the start to the end of work without the rest breaks (§ 2 ArbZG). The end of the day therefore results from start, working time and breaks together.
The Youth Employment Protection Act applies to them: as a rule, at most eight hours a day and 40 hours a week. For more than four and a half up to six hours of work, 30 minutes of break are mandatory, for more than six hours 60 minutes. At least twelve hours of free time lie between two working days (§§ 8, 11 and 13 JArbSchG).
Yes. Under a decision of the Federal Labour Court of 13 September 2022, employers must record the start and end of daily working time. The law has so far prescribed no specific form, and depending on the company, a paper timesheet also suffices.

What Zentrana does with it automatically
- 01 When someone clocks in, time tracking reports at once if more than 10 hours are reached or the rest period falls under 11 hours.
- 02 If someone forgets to clock out, the time account counts the day as 10 hours at most and flags it for review.
- 03 The flexitime account warns from 40 hours over or under, and shows when the limit of 80 hours is reached.
In Zentrana, nothing needs recalculating.
What you type in here one by one runs there automatically for every person: hours, deadlines, leave and holidays. Zentrana reports deadlines before they run out.
